This profile provides an assessment of cytokines secreted by Th1, Th2, Th17, and Treg T cell subsets. Th1 cytokines are associated with bacterial infection and certain autoimmune disorders, while Th2 cytokines indicate allergic responses or mucosal parasitic infections. Th17 cells are implicated in autoimmune disorders; but IL-17 is also key to maintaining a protective intestinal mucosal barrier and to fighting bacterial, mycobacterial, and fungal infections.
