Home Testing Supplies Blood Test Products NMR LipoProfile

Viewing: NMR LipoProfile

Product Name: NMR LipoProfile

Description:
The NMR LipoProfile test is an advanced cardiovascular diagnostic test that uses nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to uniquely provide rapid, simultaneous and direct measurement of LDL particle number and size of LDL particles, as well as direct measurement of HDL and VLDL subclasses. This detailed lipoprotein particle information allows clinicians to make more effective individualized treatment decisions than previously possible based on standard lipid panel testing. The atherosclerotic culprit is LDL particle number, not LDL cholesterol. Physicians have traditionally estimated the number of particles by measuring the cholesterol they contain - known as LDL cholesterol (or LDL-C). The NMR LipoProfile test is a blood test which has been shown in numerous clinical studies to be superior to LDL-cholesterol in predicting coronary heart disease (CHD) events. No doctors order required, no additional costs. Blood Draw required at a nearby lab. You recieve a copy of the results. NOT AVAILABLE IN NEW YORK OR CALIFORNIA.

The NMR LipoProfile® test is an unique blood test your doctor can perform to determine your risk of developing heart disease.  This breakthrough lipoprotein test will tell you and your doctor detailed information about your heart health – information that no other test can give you.

The NMR LipoProfile test is the only test that directly measures lipoprotein particles and can give you and your doctor a clear picture of your heart health.  You doctor can make treatment decisions based on your lipoprotein particles to ward off potential heart health problems in the future.

What does the NMR LipoProfile test tell your doctor?

The NMR LipoProfile test will tell your doctor specific information about your heart health.  The most important item to look at on the report is the LDL particle number.  Generally, the lower the number of LDL particles, the better.

 Patients with a high number of LDL particles (LDL-P) are at increased risk for heart disease, even if they have "normal" cholesterol levels. By knowing how many of these particles are circulating in the blood, a physician can get a more accurate picture of a patient's heart health and, therefore make better patient care decisions.

Cholesterol alone only gives you half the picture of your risk for a heart attack.  Get the test the Wall Street Journal called one of the most "promising screening tests [that] could save your life."  The NMR LipoProfile test is the only way to be sure.

The clinical value of the NMR LipoProfile test is based on data demonstrating stronger CVD associations compared to the traditional cholesterol-based lipid panel. Data from several clinical trials show significantly stronger associations of NMR LipoProfile test values with:
  • “Hard” CVD endpoints (e.g., myocardial infarction or angina, coronary heart disease (CHD), death, stroke);
  • Sub-clinical CVD endpoints (e.g., carotid atherosclerosis, coronary lumen diameter, coronary calcification): and
  • Microvascular endpoints (e.g., retinopathy, nephropathy) versus the standard lipid panel.

The NMR LipoProfile test differentiates CHD risk in patients who may have similar cholesterol values, especially when the LDL cholesterol is at or near ATP III treatment goals.

Thanks to new research, we understand that heart disease, or the blocking of arteries, is caused by lipoproteins.  Lipoproteins are particles or containers in the blood that carry cholesterol.

Think of heart disease as a traffic jam with particles as cars and cholesterol as passengers.  It's the number of cars that cause the traffic jam, not the number of passengers.  Just as cars cause the traffic jam, particles cause heart disease.
